The Los Angeles-based startup, valued at $2.3 billion, is utilizing additive manufacturing to bring down manufacturing cost and increase production rates for its Terran 1 rocket. The company’s true potential may lie beyond manufacturing rockets and launching satellites, however.

Crew Dragon’s Redemptive Launch

On May 27th, SpaceX will attempt to launch two NASA astronauts to the International Space Station on its Crew Dragon spacecraft in the first manned commercial launch in history. This piece aims to reflect on this historic day and what it means for the overall commercial space industry.

Company Spotlight:

Rocket Lab

The American-New Zealander rocket company is the frontrunner in the rapidly expanding smallsat launch industry. Its workhorse Electron launch vehicle combined with continuous research into nascent technologies such as reusability and the Photon satellite bus makes Rocket Lab one of the most disruptive companies in the market.
